Protect Your Pets from Pesky Pests

An itchy pet equals an unhappy pet. An unhappy pet equals an unhappy pet parent. Because of this, as a pet parent, you should do all that you can to make sure that your pet is protected from little pests that can not only cause them great annoyance, but also cause them severe health issues.

Your pets are very susceptible to pesky pests embedding themselves and seeking refuge in their fur. The tough part is — they’re tiny and can easily go unnoticed, which is why you need to seek as much advice as you can even before you let a pet into your life about how you can best spot and then protect them from troublesome, tiny parasites. One such example are ticks: if you aren’t aware of symptoms and signs to look out for that indicate a tick invasion on your pet’s body, then you would allow the tiny bloodsuckers to carry on, well, sucking blood to their heart’s content. Signs include: spotting a tick scurrying about your your home (make sure to check out this tick identification guide); seeing that your pet has a fever and displays symptoms like a loss of appetite and shivering; and seeing unexplainable scabs on your pet’s body that are actually caused by bites.

And acting upon seeing these signs is just as important as looking out for them. Firstly, if you do see a tick in your home and get rid of it, you shouldn’t believe that doing so means you’ve eradicated the problem — you should give your pet regular close examinations and continue to keep a very close eye on your home for any more that may be hiding. If you do, in fact, find a tick burrowing into the fur of your pet upon your examination you should seek to apply medication such as frontline plus for dogs as soon as possible. And as well as helping your pet, seeking to kill off a surge of ticks, or any other pesky pets or creepy crawlies, in your house is something you need to do in order to protect your own wellbeing and the wellbeing of your family. You can start by simply cleaning everything up and away that could attract any unwanted visitors — this includes soaring flour and sugar away in sealed bags, taking out the trash often and securing it outside properly, not leaving pet doors open overnight and cleaning up spills and crumbs straight away instead of leaving them and forgetting that they are there. If this doesn’t work then there are other, more extensive, ways to close your borders to the your unwanted little friends that can be found here. However, if you find that these solutions aren’t working, and that the situation isn’t getting any better and is in fact spiralling out of control, then let it be taken out of your control and seek pest control. Using cutting edge of technology, a wealth of knowledge and experience, and a shared disdain for pests, pest control professionals can ensure that the little nuisances in your home are dealt with once and for all. Doing so will allow both you, and your pet, to be able to now sleep easy knowing the fact that neither of you are going to wake up in the morning bit to shreds.

The spring and summer months are a time when all sorts of different pests quite literally come out the woodwork, so it will soon be time to really start thinking about and implementing all of the above if you want to be a really great pet parent.
