We have two large dogs in our home.  A Great Dane and a Boxer.  Nicki, our Boxer, is almost seven years old now and I remember when I first brought her home I thought a Boxer was a large dog.  Now I realize that nothing can compared to being large when you have a Great Dane in the house.  Cooper turned two this past spring and although he still acts like a baby, he is far from being the size of a baby.  Having large dogs as part of our family requires that we train them to be calm when needed.  Can you imagine a dog that weights over 140 lbs running crazy through your house?

When working with the dogs on verbal commands they always respond well to positive reinforcements in the form of treats.  That’s why it has been important to us to find healthy snacks that can be used year round.  Purina Beyond White Meat Chicken Cutlets Natural Dog Snacks are perfect for an every day snack and training incentives.

My dogs will do just about anything for their treats.  The first command they were taught was to sit.  This is the easiest lesson because they kept their eyes glued to the treat in my hand.  Now the moment they hear me say sit they do it without fuss.  This comes in handy when people come over to visit and the dogs get excited.

While shopping at Target I not only picked up some Purina Beyond White Meat Chicken Cutlets but I also purchased a package of the Jerky Strips and a couple of new toys.  After working on training and exercise it is nice for the dogs to have something to keep them busy.  Our Great Dane gets bored easily so having toys around the house to chew on keeps him from getting into mischief.

The Purina Beyond White Chicken Cutlets are about the size of my palm.  Per the directions on the back of the bag I can feed my dogs between three to four a day based on their size.  Since chicken is the #1 ingredient and the snacks do not contain corn, wheat, soy, or any artificial colors, flavors or preservations; I feel confident giving them the treats to snack on throughout the day.  Plus, they are made in the United States!

When training your dog you want to provide them with several little treats as incentives to continue listening to your commands.  Cooper can scarf down a full size treat in about one gulp so I just break it up in smaller pieces to make it last longer.  The snacks are already crafted in small batches so by ripping them into smaller pieces I am just prolonging the training process which allows me to hold his attention.

Our dogs love to wrestle and I joke about Cooper mistaking Nicki for one of his toys.  As you can see in the photo below they chew on one another.  Which is a good thing because they can help work out some of their energy by playing.

It’s not always easy to get them to be still long enough for a photo.  After a day of training, full bellies from snacks and wrestling around, they finally calmed down and stretched out in the floor.  And when I say stretched out in the floor I mean the entire floor.  Cooper is more than 6′ tall when he stands on his back feet.  He’s a big boy!

Tips for Training:

  • Always have healthy snacks ready for incentives.
  • Start with simple commands like sit and then move on to commands such as lay and stay.
  • Practice training in small batches of time. Maximum 30 minutes.
  • Once training is done give them a toy to work out excess energy.

How would Purina Beyond Snacks found at Target fit into your dog’s snacking routine?
